Introduction to Ancient Greek

In this course you will develop the ability to read the works of the famous authors of the ancient Greek world in the original language. By the end of the course, you will have built a strong Greek vocabulary and gained a sound understanding of Greek grammar and syntax, which are invaluable tools to bring to bear on any language, particularly English. As you progress through the text and receive regular feedback from your instructor, you will tackle increasingly complex and sophisticated passages from authors who have had a profound influence on the course of Western culture. These include: Plato (philosophy), Euripides (tragedy), Herodotus (historiography), Lysias (political and legal oratory), and Xenophon (biography). In addition you will encounter a generous sampling of passages from the gospels of the New Testament.
